Mix Theory Posted on 2015-05-17 by Wes Hawkins

This week began with assisting in a new client session in Studio C at Audio Mix House.  My mentor, Josh Connolly, engineered the session for the two clients- one male vocalist and a female accomplice acting as producer.  Josh's Pro Tools session template is extremely efficient in minimizing future editing.  This allows for a smoother transition to the mixing process, and he even had rough mixes in the works while tracking.  That really wow'ed the clients (and myself)!

I also began on the mix project downloaded from the RRF textbook- a song titled "The Seige" by The Bella Donna Treatment.  I either feel like RRF was looking out for my taste in music or just particularly lucky that I thoroughly enjoy the song!  Levels and panning per this chapter's instructions have been completed, and I can't wait to tear into it and make it sound amazing.

I assisted and took notes on Josh's workflow in mixing (in this case, re-mixing someone else's unsatisfactory mix) from scratch by way of artist Manika's "B.Y.O. Bugati."  I organized and renamed the freshly imported track list and mapped out the song completely with markers before Josh got down to business on the mix.  I am stoked to be finally getting my hands dirty in Audio Mix House!
